    Highlands Hotel
    "Lovely hotel, superb location"
By , Isle of Man, UK
This hotel is superbly positioned in an iconic Jersey location- just a few minutes walk from La Corbiere lighthouse. I'm not sure how recently this hotel was refurbished, but everything seems very fresh, new and spotlessly clean. There is a lovely seaside theme running through the hotel. The restaurant menu is quite narrow but changed daily and the food is very good quality and served quickly. The rates for this hotel were very reasonable for high season. Check in was quick, perhaps a little too quick. I was told what time they would be serving food til, but it would have been nice to be given more information about the hotel. For example, on the opposite side of the hotel from my room was a delightful circular lounge overlooking the cliffs and sea, but I was left to find this myself. There was also a small gym, but I'm not sure if this was for guest's use. Also, I wasn't sure if you could sit in the bar and have a glass of wine or whether the bar was just for serving drinks with meals. This confusion though may be my fault. On the plane over, I sat next to a local who told me that the hotel was a Christian hotel that didn't serve alcohol. This was clearly NOT the case, but it did make me wary of buying alcohol without a meal. There is a lovely terrace to sit out on that overlooked the sea from its cliff top location with a small outdoor swimming pool. I had surgery 6 days before my visit and if someone had offered to help carry my bag to my room, I would have gladly accepted. However this offer was not forthcoming on check in. Once I got my bag to the room, I read the hotel info and it was clear that I could have asked for help if required, but by then it was a bit late. My single room was small but had everything I needed. It was on the side of the hotel, so not much of a view, but very reasonably priced. One night it was slightly noisy, with people coming and going, parking in the service lane below, but nothing that kept me awake for long. If you have mobility issues let them know on booking. There did appear to be some ground floor rooms, but the upper floor, although served by a lift, which I found after a couple of days, still has a few steps up and down along one of the corridors. There is a bus stop opposite the hotel and the buses seemed pretty regular. Restaurant staff were very friendly and efficient. My room, like the rest of the hotel was fresh and clean. I loved the seaside fabric that the blind and cushion was made of. I would definitely recommend this hotel, just make sure you ask all the questions you need to in order to make the most of it.

The hotel has undergone a large amount of refurbishment. What has not changed is the wonderful location and spectacular views that has been synonymous with the Highlands Hotel.

Restaurant

The hotel offers a varied restaurant menu.  In the morning there are English or Continental breakfasts and during the day you can enjoy a selection of refreshments, light lunches and snacks.

Leisure Activities

The beautiful island of Jersey is perfect for many of the leisure activities our guests are interested in. Our staff have close links with the specialist leisure companies on the island and together they can tailor activities to satisfy your own personal requirements.

What about trying something new whilst you are with us? Try out blokarting or fishing or just listen to the Dawn Chorus, we are situated at a SSI protected area for nature and bronze age history. Highlands Hotel will be pleased to advise where your interests can be met.

Attractions

The famous Corbiere lighthouse is one of the most photographed buildings in Jersey. Completed in 1874 and the first such structure in the British Isles to be built entirely from reinforced concrete rather than traditional stone blockwork, it is fairly easy to see up close when the tide is out.

Thank you for a peaceful, refreshing stay. Everything I had hoped for, from reading your website, happened! Even though surrounded by sea mists at times, a sunny break allowed experience of the lovely warm pool and a cliff top site for quiet reflection. Being right on the coastal pathway inspired me to keep walking .. so have managed two-thirds of the coastline in wind, rain and sun .. so will need to come back to finish this ... helped by the buses returning me to the doorstep! Hospitality from all the hotel staff was consistently positive, with special thanks to the restaurant team .. menu options so good that I ate in every night even though only booked for bed and breakfast. As a single traveller I never felt out of place .. and good to be able to have a genuine single room .. very cosy.

Well worth paying extra for a balcony room as the views are outstanding with sun on the balcony for most of the day. We stayed without a car which makes it slightly harder for sight seeing but there are lots of lovely walks on the doorstep and the bus stop is just up the road. IIt was quite liberating not to feel like we had to explore the whole island in 3 days which we would have done had we had a car! One of our favourite walks was to get the bus into St Aubin and walk back along the old railway line which passes the hotel. The staff at the hotel were amazing and always smiling and helpful. The food was great and the service in the restaurant was very efficient with no long waits between courses. Thank you - We'll be back!

We would recommend the balcony rooms. It is clean and tidy with all you need for a great holiday; it has a pool and super outside seating space with amazing sea views. The staff cannot do enough for you, they were always helpful and courteous. Breakfast excellent. Great bus service almost outside taking you to St Helier, St Brelades Bay, St Aubins Bay and further afield. We will go back.

The hotel was perfect in every sense. The staff were friendly and helpful from our arrival. The room with balcony and sea view was idyllic. The bed was huge and very comfortable. Breakfast staff were very attentive. The hotel is in a beautiful setting away from the hustle and bustle of St Helier. Easy access to and from the airport if you are hiring a car. Have been to Jersey and Guernsey many times and this is the best hotel I have stayed in. Wouldn't hesitate to book again. A big thank you to all concerned. Alan and Rosemary.

From the time I arrived the staff were very caring and supportive. As the week progressed and there were more guests arriving their attention remained the same. As a solo holiday maker they took time to inquire what were my daily plans and then remembered to ask me on my return. They even made suggestions of places I might be interested in visiting. I had a reserved table in the dining room which had an amazing view over the sea towards France. The food was very good and they took trouble to ensure that my dietary requirements were met at each meal. The location, ethos and decor of the hotel were beyond my expectations when planning the holiday.
