General Information

The Sefton is a perfectly situated, relaxing, calm and rather beautiful four star hotel with an award-winning restaurant. It is a sympathetic mixture of a fine restored Victorian hotel and a new extension set round a unique water garden. This hotel is quite unique and much much unlike other chain hotels and as such The Sefton is increasingly the first-choice hotel for both business and leisure visitors to the island.

The Atrium Water Garden

The Atrium Water Garden at the Sefton Hotel, Douglas Isle of Man has a distinctive and most unusual design which uses nature itself to both ventilate and moderate the internal environment creating comfortable conditions for both hotel guests and garden plants alike. The Water Garden helps to create a relaxed atmosphere with elegant palm fronds and lily ponds, ferns and luxuriant creepers and lush fountains. This is intrinsic to the ethos of the hotel, a conscious rejection of the sealed windows, dry air and constant hum of many modern buildings. Instead, create a fantastically soothing atmosphere and state-of-the-art technology allows nature itself to dictate the optimum conditions for hotel guests and plants alike.

Rooms

At Sefton Hotel there are 100 luxurious bedrooms: 15 executive rooms, 25 with sea view and 60 with balconies overlooking the beautiful atrium water garden. Rooms are all well furnished, each including a sofa or armchair, TV, internet, iron and trouser press, direct dial phone, hospitality tray, fridge, personal safe, work desk and a well appointed bathroom. Room types available are Standard, Executive, Sea Facing rooms/suites, Sea Facing Deluxe and Atrium Balcony/Deluxe/Junior Suite.

The Breakfast Room

The breakfast room is situated on the first floor overlooking the bay and harbour. The perfect place to see the sun rise.

The Gallery Restaurant

For those among us that like high quality food cooked by award winning chefs and a restaurant that provides true service and comfort then the Gallery Restaurant is ideal. We have a large selection of mouth-watering dishes to tempt you including a flambe service at your table. The Sefton is very proud to provide our guests with complete homemade dishes even our Ice Cream is legendary with flavours such as Pistachio and Tiramisu. Wherever possible we use only the finest locally provided Manx produce which presents you with a true flavour of the Isle of Man.

Sir Norman's Bar

Sir Norman's bar is a smoke free bar with a relaxed atmosphere with an extensive wine list, full lunch and dinner menu, selection of pastries, afternoon teas and snacks. Opening from 10am-Midnight it offers something for everyone and on Friday and Saturday evenings you can hear the resident Pianist playing.

Conference Rooms

The Sefton Hotel is a specialist in hosting conferences and can accommodate a variety of sized events. Fully Wi-Fi enabled that is free of charge to all guests, there are many fantastic rooms available for many uses.

The Garden Room is just off the Atrium Water Garden and is the most versatile room as the room size can be adjusted to fit the size of your event from a dinner for 10 people to a 180 theatre style.

The Lecture Theatre room features tiered seating for 25 delegates and a video projector and screen. The beautiful atrium water garden makes an ideal, relaxing break out area. Next to the Sefton Hotel is the Villa Marina - the Isle of Man's conference, art and cultural centre. This can host larger conference events and The Sefton is ideal accommodation for these events, or can offer conference rooms for related spin-off conferences.

The Spa & Swimming Pool

Comprises of the swimming pool, spa pool, steam room, sauna, gym, Avie Beauty Therapy Service and the Pulse Health and Fitness Consultancy.

The swimming pool is open daily from 7am till 9pm. The steam room and sauna are turned on at 5pm daily but if required before this time a call to the duty housekeeper a short time before it is required is all that is necessary. The gym is open from 6pm to 11pm but please note that certain items of equipment are not accessible during unsupervised periods.

Library

The newly refurbished library on the ground floor is equipped with two fully enabled internet access PC's for your use. There is also a beautiful coal effect fire for those windy island nights! We also supply a selection of daily newspapers and reading material for your use. Plus for those younger visitors (or young at heart!) a small selection of board games are available to help pass the time.

Other Hotel Facilities

  • 3 lifts
  • Special breakfast room
  • Free secure underground car park for the exclusive use of our guests

Facilities for the disabled - The Sefton Hotel has a Level 2 Access Grading

  • There are three rooms suitable for physically disabled guests - all situated on the first floor and each with atrium water garden balcony views. Each bathroom has a standard bath but the shower is designed so that you can place a wheelchair directly below it.
  • Access to the reception hall from both the Car Park and the Promenade is by convenient ramps and all floors are level and accessible from one of three lifts.
  • The Library, Breakfast Room and Lounge have level access and are level throughout as is the Atrium Water Garden.
  • A ramp gives access to the Gallery restaurant and bar.
  • There is a special lowered section to the reception counter for easy registration and communication with the duty receptionist.
  • For disabled non-resident guests there is a disabled toilet facility on the first floor immediately adjacent to the main lift.
  • The edge of the swimming pool is accessible by wheelchair but the changing room is not and it is therefore best to get changed in your bedroom first and then come down to the pool. Dressing gowns can be added on request.
  • There is a reserved disabled parking position in the hotel underground car park. When first arriving by car go straight round to the rear of the hotel and drive down the ramp into the car park. At the barrier you will see a bell push and speaker giving you direct communication with the duty receptionist.

My stay was really pleasant, the hotel staff very king and efficient. The room was comfortable and the bathroom well furnished. The view from my window not so nice, but since I didn't intend to pass my time inside, that wasn't a problem for me. The only trouble was in finding my room on the evening of my arrival, the hotel being a king of labyrinth... but that was fun too!

Totally loved my huge sea-view room! I was travelling with a large group of friends and I had the chance to see many different rooms, from the fancy suites to the not so fab rooms facing the back, so I guess it really depends on which room one books/gets. But I would definitely recommend a sea-view room. The location on the Promenade is postcard pretty and the property, despite a few signs of ageing, is a Victorian beauty.

This was our first trip to the Sefton Hotel and to the Isle of Man.....and we were certainly not disappointed! There had been a mix up with our online booking which did not match the accommodation reserved by the hotel. I must stress this was an issue generated by the online booking system and not the hotel. Without hesitation and with a very calm and proffesional manner Rachel & Samantha on Reception dealt with the problem, offering us an alternative that we were delighted with. This was to be a special break for us....my husband was celebrating his 65th birthday and I had been through a very stressful year due to health issues which resulted in my early retirement. We could not wish to have spent it in a more delightful place than The Sefton. We admit our stay was enhanced by the wonderful suite we stayed in due to the booking error but more importantly it was the staff throughout the hotel....with their helpful considerate approach towards the guests that made this a holiday to remember.

We stayed in Room 409 (a delux sea-facing room) which proved to be lucky for us as there was a Wedding Reception one evening causing noise and disturbance, especially to other guests, but did not affect us. We would like to visit the Isle of Man again and would be very happy to book Room 409. Breakfast was very good and meals in Norman's bar were value for money.

Breakfast - very good selection of fruit, cereal and hot dishes - although could have been hotter at times. We ate from the A La Carte menu on 3 mornings - portions huge and delicious. Gallery Restaurant - staff attentive and food delicious - portions huge. Room very hot although a fan was provided. Room and bathroom pleasant and spacious. Disappointed that pool not available during our week of stay.

Friendly and helpful staff, good central location. Large room with corner balcony in atrium was excellent, good facilities but disapointed that the swimming pool was closed. Only ate in Sir Normans, bar food excellent, thought restaurant was expensive and menu lacked variety. Bar closed early for residents and no room service after 10.30 PM.

This was my first trip to the Isle of Man. We had booked the hotel online as it looked impressive from the photos. When we checked in the the receptionist told us we had been upgraded to the Speakers Suite. To put it politely we were gobsmacked. The suite was fantastic! The four poster bed had a memory foam mattress topper which made it extremely comfortable and the turn-down service was an added touch of luxury. The bathroom had two basins, toilet, a roll top bath, a walk-in shower, a TV and sound system, plenty of white soft towels, 2 bathrobes, scales and every toiletry you could think of even a razor and shaving cream! The kitchenette was well stocked daily with coffee/tea/milk and biscuits as well as fresh fruit. The settee's and chaise long made the sitting room very comfy whilst watching the flat screen Bang & Olsen TV. We had a meal in Normans bar on the first evening which was beautifully cooked and also had a meal in the a la carte restaurant on the last night again extremely well presented and cooked. Breakfast was a little crowded especially on the first day and we had to sit in the outer breakfast area but I got to have the kippers that I had been looking forward to so I didn't mind too much. There was a full range of cooked items that you helped yourself to as well as cereals, fresh fruit, pastries, toast and preserves. I had the a la carte breakfast every day which I thoroughly enjoyed. All of the staff were extremely helpful and polite and having the upgrade made our holiday extra special. Thank you all very much. We will definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return in the not too distant future.

Our first time visit to the Isle of Man, very impressed with the hotel and location, we dined in the first night nice menu, very good food and service and not over priced wines. We did go a bit over the top by staying in the Royal Suite but it was worth it. Downside, small car park so not a lot moan about.

The room was superb. Great facilities and fantastic views across the bay. The communal areas of the old part of the hotel are looking a bit "tired" in places. The food in Sir Norman's was good but the staff could have been a bit more attentiive. Very disappointed the leisure facilities were closed, we were offered use of facilities at another hotel up the road but not quite the same.Perhaps struggling to justify it's 4* status but a very solid 3* and the room made up for any deficiencies.

We stayed on the 4th floor in a Seaview room. The view was fantastic. However, the room was excessively warm, despite the cool temperatures outside! To be fair, we are acclimatized to Northern Ireland and those from warmer climes might not be so put off by temps that had us stripped down to our skivvies. The food was very good, but the wait staff a little inexperienced (we're talking about the bar, here). The staff accommodated our abnormal American need for lots of ice. The bathroom was expansive, but the tub a little narrow for expansive American physiques. The internet connectivity was good. We had trouble with our electricity in our older section, but the staff was very responsive and fixed the problem in a quick manner. A water potability warning was issued while we were in the hotel (as in - do not drink the water without boiling!), but the hotel did post the warning very visibily and it was not their fault. In other words, the hotel did experience the problems you might expect from an older facility but they dealt with those problems with class.

My first trip to the Isle of Man was a combination of business and pleasure. With our meeting being held in The Sefton staying there seemed the obvious place for two nights. The single room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Didn't have a view but not a problem when I was only in the room to sleep. Facilities at the hotel were very good and the food both in the bar, the restaurant and for breakfast were very good. An ideal location to enjoy all the Isle of Man has to offer

Putting an industrial "Slippy Surface" yelow sign there was poor. Reception staff efficient but rather non smiling. Sir Normans bar good for food and drinks. Would definitedly return.
