General Information

A very friendly family welcome awaits you at the historic Covenanters' Inn. Run by Louise and Douglas Harrison, the Inn is located in the small country village of Auldearn, just 2 miles from Nairn between Inverness (capital of the Highlands) and the historic town of Elgin in Moray. It is an ideal location from which to explore the magnificent scenery of the North and West Highlands, Moray, Speyside, the Cairngorms and Aberdeenshire. Whether you are here for the history, the whisky or the outdoor life, there's something for everyone!

We pride ourselves on being a family establishment and our daughters, Claire and Laura, are often on hand to greet guests and meet their children.

If you are wondering about the name - it originates from the great Battle of Auldearn in 1645 between the Covenanters and the Marquis of Montrose. In these times, the original part of the Inn was the Mill and Brewhouse for the people of the area. Today, the Highlands are far more welcoming and we look forward to meeting you!

Accommodation

The Covenanters' Inn offers 14 comfortable bedrooms (double, twin, triple and family rooms) all with en-suite facilities, colour TV, direct-dial telephone and central heating. One bedroom has been adapted for disabled guests. All rooms are on the ground floor.

We also have a self-catering chalet available.

Dining

On offer at Covenanters Inn is a wide range of food which can be enjoyed in a variety of surroundings. Start off your day with a nutritious vegetarian breakfast served at the inn. Lunch and dinner are served in the friendly and casual Kiln Lounge where you will find a menu of both local and international specialties as well as daily specials. Relax in the Kiln Lounge Bar which is situated in the 'mill' section of the building and sample one of the many Scottish whiskies.

Local Attractions

We are ideally situated for touring northern Scotland. In the reception area there is an abundance of information about local tourist attractions and events. If you need any help in planning days out, Douglas will be only too pleased to assist. He keeps up-to-date on where the Moray dolphins and Nessie have been sighted most recently!

The Inn has been nice in the past and is the same today, we have stayed here several times and the welcome is always warm. Bedrooms are ample for a B&B and the food within the bar is lovely. Nice quiet place to base yourself for a tour around the highlands.

Our 3rd stay at the Covies, the base for our annual visit to the Scots Open Golf. Once again enjoyed it thoroughly. Basic but comfortable accommodation more than made up for by Douglas and his very welcoming staff. Good bar food and choice of beers. We'll be back!

Excellent value. Plenty of car parking. Food good, especially breakfast. Rooms small, but upgraded since last visit: not perfect but perfectly adequate. Excess use of toilet blocks in gents urinals means strong smell stil coming from gents into the corridor to rooms. Noted that most guests tend not to use the bar in evenings - probably put off by permanent small gaggle of foul mouthed (though quite harmless) locals around the bar. Could do with creating a public bar for the locals in order to insulate guests, and children, from their bad language. Mein host, Dougie, is a nice guy. Happy to stay again, and no doubt will do so.

In general I enjoyed my short overnight stop at the Covenanters Inn. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the food was good both for a bar supper and at breakfast. The bar area itself was looking a wee bit dated and tired and the lighting in the extension area was too bright making it quite a vacuous, empty and unwelcoming space to sit in and promting me to move round the corner. Some of the public rooms and areas were also dated and a wee bit shabby and tired looking. My room and its facilities etc. was absolutely fine however for the price. Location of the Inn at the edge of a quitet village was good with ample parking and quiet area overnight. Good value for money and I would stay here again. Hope this helps.

Hi, we had a nice stay and the room was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. We had dinner in the bar and although my husbands steak was lovely the fish i had was dry but the waitress was willing to change it. The wine would have been nice if it had been chilled

My husband and I were looking forward to our first holiday for 6 years at Covenanters Inn. The Hotel was very welcoming and the facilities in room 4 helped my husband who is incapacitated by steps, seats at tables and slow when walking any distance. At all times the Hotel staff were willing and helpful to assist him. Breakfasts were suitably tasty and enjoyable in the pleasant dining room The evening menu had "something for every one!!"
