The hotel is right in the centre of Castletown in the square it has a private car park to the rear of the hotel which is a real bonus the front is nicely decorated with flowers and very welcoming. On arrival we were booked in by a really nice friendly girl and went up to the room we had booked a double bed but the room had twin beds I went down and pointed this out to the young girl, the manager was at the bar and straight away apologised and said he would get it rectified in the morning. The room was basic but clean and spacious with a good size TV and tea & coffee etc which if you had wanted more you only had to ask.The view from the window was overlooking a roof of the shop next door but we had a lovely view of the sea beyond it.The bathroom had a decent size shower and we had nice big bath sheets which if we wanted could have clean towels everyday. The full Manx breakfast was excellent and there was plenty of choice if you didn't want a full breakfast. The hotel/pub also does meals at night the menu was good with plenty of choice and they have a specials board. We had a lovely stay and Paul the manager went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed it.The Hotel is a bit tired and would benefit from a bit of a refurbishment the carpet outside of the kitchen on the first floor could do with a clean or replacing with a more hard wearing carpet as it gets a lot of use. However this did not spoil the holiday & wasn't an issue Paul the manager works hard and as the saying goes Rome wasn't built in a day we had a lovely stay and would go back keep up the good work Paul and it can only get better.

Superb location on Castletown's main square, opposite the castle itself. From the outside the hotel looks a handsome building, with cheery and colourful window boxes. Once inside, however, a rather tired and unloved building presents itself, not helped on our arrival by an overpowering stale cooking smells.....apparently the kitchen's extractor fans weren't working! Rooms and en suite shower room were a little better, clean and perfectly serviceable. Food was a bit hit and miss.....the evening menu was uninteresting but reasonably priced, breakfasts varied from good to poor (it was an experience having Eggs Benedict with fried eggs! Staff were good on the whole - particularly the delightfully jolly Thai lady overseeing breakfast service: worth the price of the breakfast itself! And Paul, the new manager, was so helpful and drove us to the airport instead of letting us wait for a bus! Apparently a makeover is in the offing, and we would return to see if this grande dame of a hotel can be reinvigorated!!

I've stayed here 4-5 times in the last ten years, sometimes by myself, sometimes as a family. It's always been great - very friendly and efficient, and the rooms (while variable) have always been fine. Having very nice pub food available in the evening is a real plus too, as is the location on Castletown Square, near the shops and bus routes. Could only be improved by a view right over the sea, so location doesn't quite get excellent!

Staff were very friendly. Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. I had hoped to have my evening meal there, but when I arrived at 8.45 pm, the kitchen was closed and I had to go elsewhere. The breakfast was excellent. The hairdryer provided was not really fit for purpose, but when I reported it, the person I spoke to said they would rectify the problem immediately.

great location, 3 or 4 mins drive from airport or 5 or 6 mins by bus . Right in the centre of Castletown . Our twin room was very spacious with a good quality TV, smallish but adequate bathroom ( could do with a couple of hooks to hang clothes / towels etc ). Very friendly and helpful proprietors and staff . Great to have a bar just downstairs ! Meals served though we were out all day and didn't eat in, the menu is good with plenty of choice . All in all nothing to dislike unless you're extremely fussy ! Would definitely stay at the George again

Nice place, good food, comfortable beds. Slightly tired but in a unobjectionable sort of way which in fact I almost prefer to obsessive orderliness and efficiency. Reminded me rather a lot of Fawlty Tower - in a good way. Would return.

You could not fault the staff, they were attentive, friendly and really helpful. A really super team of people. Despite being over a pub it's extremely quiet with no disturbance. My only criticism is the rooms were tired looking, there were holes in the walls where something had collided with them, the décor and furniture are both old-fashioned therefore hasn't been painted or changed for the a while. Just could do with a bit of TLC really.

Our stay at the George was a pleasant one. The staff was friendly and most helpful in helping us to accomplish our mission of finding my grandfather's burial place. The food at the restaurant was tasty and reasonably priced. Public transportation was easily accessible...all in all, the George was great!

The staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. The breakfast menu gave a good choice. It was well cooked and presented (so generous that I couldn't do it justice!) Room was clean, plenty of hot water, fluffy towels, selection of toiletries etc. Sadly the building and the rooms have seen better days - it was a little jaded. But overall - excellent value for money.

My wife and I stayed at the George from the 24th to the 26th October 2014. We found everything we needed in the hotel - the room was very large and comfortable and we had a great view of the Castle. Breakfast was fantastic as was the service. We also had a couple of meals in the hotel during our stay and these too were good. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay - very attentive without being over bearing. We very much look forward to our next visit.

Hotel is good if a bit faded - carpets could do with renewing. Staff friendly.Hearty and freshly cooked breakfast. One issue was the distinct lack of transport from the hotel to anywhere else on the island. Taxis dont appear keen to come out to Castletown unless a surcharge is paid. This made my journey to a meeting difficult ( I needed to get a bus!) Okay if you have own transport/hire car. If you want nighttime options of eating out then best to opt to stay in Douglas.

Good and friendly, Room was fine and food & drink good and cooked to order. The public areas are a bit scruffy which gives a poor impression on arrival. Worst point is that the carpet on the main staircase is filthy. This is because the kitchen is upstairs so waiting staff continually use it. A small investment to replace this with a different floor covering would be a big improvement. Like the rest of the IoM it has seen better days but was still totally acceptable and would stay again
