Our stay at Sallochy was short as a stop for the west highland way . Campsite was very clean woth all the basic needs met.The warden was polite and very helpful. If the warden had a small stock of amenities for sale it would make the stop much more comfortable . After a long days walk being able to purchase a few things to resupply would be ideal. Also fire lighters for the fire pit. Thank you

History of the site

It was the third Duke of Montrose (1755-1836) who planted the east side of Loch Lomond with Oakwood trees. It is difficult to imagine today but this tranquil forest was once an industrial site where every spring women and children coppicing trees and stripping their bark. Workers distilled pyroligneous acid from the wood, and used it to fix dyes in the great textile factories of the Vale of Leven.

Now you can enjoy the popular and picturesque woodland site which is ideal for families, walkers and those wanting to experience a short outdoor break in the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.

It was a proper start for us as when we arrived There was no warden on site and the map is a little misleading. This led to us pitching in the wrong area and having to move in the rain. After that hiccup tho we had a great 2 days and our location was perfect (pitch 1 lochside). Follow instructions on wardens cabin door and u won't end up on the wrong pitch like us. Our warden was more than helpful and our boys had a great time (ages 2 and 5)

Fantastic location and good standard of facilities. Bonus opportunity to hire fire pit and logs, toasted mash mallows with the kids which went down a treat. Great fun walking along the beach and kids braved the weather even taken a dip in the loch.

This is a great wee campsite, right on the loch. Toilets were basic but not unpleasant. There is drinking water and a sink for washing up. We took our family and the kids had a great time cycling round the site, exploring the woods and swimming in the loch. A slight downside is not being allowed to drink alcohol on the site and there was a police Patrol each evening to keep an eye on things, but it is such a lovely peaceful site, I hope it stays that way.

First camping trip and Sallochy was the third campsite I stayed in. It's got a more rural feel than others, which is helped by it being tents only. The warden was super friendly too. It's close to walks and the beach is amazing. Would stay again!

I chose a loch side pitch based on the reviews of others and wasn't disappointed! It enabled an easy access swim, trees to string up a clothes line and the pitches were spread out enough to feel sufficiently away from others. If you don't mind being that little bit further away from the toilet block and water tap, then I would highly recommend being on the loch. It was a fantastic spot to camp after a long day of walking.

This is a great campsite with adequate facilities. The only downside was other campers making lots of noise late into the night. Perhaps a ranger visit later than the 7.30 closing time would help stop these selfish people.

The site is clean, and nice. I prebooked so I got a piece of the lakeshore to pitch my tent. The manager was very nice and helpful. There are only three toilets - when the campsite is busy that may be a problem. Note that there are no shower, and that the toilets are compost toilets (there is not smell, and they feel nice and clean).

Stayed here with my family for three nights. Fantastic setting and a peaceful atmosphere until it got to Friday evening. A large group of Russians turned up and had a party till 2.30am. They were drinking shouting and singing the whole time. As there were no staff they carried on unchecked. Totally inappropriate for me and my two young children. A shame as it's such s nice site. Won't ever come on a weekend again in the future!

Superbly positioned site with pitches right along the loch front. Fire pits and logs meant the rainy day had a cosy ending, and very sociable as well. Composting toilets well maintained. Well managed site in general. Would love to have stayed longer but was a one-night stop on a longer walk.

Sallochy is a beautiful place to camp if you are happy with some basic amenities(there are composting toilets and a sink). The location is stunning with a view of Loch Lomond from any pitch in the site. The forestry commission rangers are on site for a few hours of the day and I found them to be as helpful as possible. This was our second trip and I'll be visiting again asap.

The staff (A Forestry Commission worker named Helen) made the visit what ot was. My friend and I had just walked 20 something miles of the west highland way (which takes you through this site!). Was great being greeted by a friendly face who was super helpful! Great site, the limited facilities are outweighed by the stunning views from the lochside pitches.

We had a great overnight stay at Sallochy. It was perfect and will return. My only reservation was the group bookings not being allowed. I do understand you don't want young groups but myself and my sisters had taken our grandchildren and were told by the very nice warden it would be allowed as it was only for one night. Took my 5 year old to Sallochy for her first night under canvas. It was great. Toilets very clean, wardens very friendly and a great mix of families and couples at the site. The location is great, being right on the water and the West Highland Way if you fancy a bit of a hike. Will definitely be back.
