Castel, Guernsey Holidays

Castel in Guernsey is a great destination for a family holiday and there are lots of tourist attractions.

Castel is the largest Parish in Guernsey and it hosts the annual “Battle of Flowers” in August and the North Show (see Guernsey Events page for more information). Castel has several beaches including the popular Cobo Bay, Grandes Rocques and Vazon Bay.

Cobo Bay is great for families as the beach is both sandy and safe for children plus it is great for windsurfers. Grandes Rocques is one of Guernsey’s award winning sandy beaches and numerous rock pools. Vazon Bay is a popular surfing beach and is one of Guernsey’s biggest beaches from which you can see the impressive Fort Hommet.

The parish church Saint Marie de Castel has a preserved medieval fresco and there is a carved, pre-Christian neolithic menhir in the churchyard which is thought to be a female fertility symbol.

The largest public park in Guernsey includes a large adventure playground for toddlers to teens, formal gardens including a rose garden, a Japanese Fishing Hut, pond and Japanese walk and tea rooms and bouncy castle. There is a Sausmarez Nature Trail from Cobo Bay to Sausmarez Park.

Guernsey Telephone Museum

Make a call down memory lane in this quirky museum that includes a hands-on exhibition of telephone communications in Guernsey since 1898.

National Trust Folk Museum

Situated in Saumarez Park in beautifully restored outbuildings and open daily from March to October, it is ran by the National Trust of Guernsey. Contains a collection of domestic Victoriana, old farming equipment, cider barn etc, all of which combine to give you a feeling of having stepped back in time. Also has a shop, tea room and children’s playground.
