First time camping and a perfect location for it. The warden was very helpful and easy to talk too. Will definitely go back again in the future. Only advice would be to bring midge spray as they can be a nuisance!

This was our third year camping at Sallochy and we still love it. The lochside pitches in particular are beautiful, you're right on the West Highland way and it's secluded enough that we can let our toddlers go feral without worrying that they'll end up under a car. The rangers are always wonderful to deal with.

My partner and I camped here to escape the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives for a few days. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sallochy it was relaxing and peaceful just like we had planned. We hired a fire pit for two nights (not the first night as the warden was poorly) but it was £5 per day for the pit and £5 for the bag of logs which we thought was totally worth it, they give you everything you would need to make a blazing fire even in the rain that is almost always in Scotland, we stayed on a lochside pitch and were so pleased with it and it's extra privacy. The toilets were clean tidy and not smelly although a walk from the lochside this wasn't an issue as I'd much rather have the privacy than a close toilet. It was nice to meet lots of hikers who were doing the west highway. Would definitely recommend this campsite but don't forget your mozzie repellent, but even in the rain this campsite is perfect for a real camping getaway.

The only thing that disappointed was the weather, we had smurry rain, lashin rain, cats an dugs, the lot. Weans got soaked but it didn't seem to matter, they had a ball! Would recommend hiring the fire basket (£5 per day + £5 per bag of chopped logs), very easy to get a roaring fire going even in torrential rain. The outlook and views are stunning, however, so are the midges - DO NOT FORGET AVON'S SKIN SO SOFT, essential on any lochside. Staff were present, approachable and helpful, campsite was well maintained and very clean - rough camping was never this smooth.

If they're not all taken you have a choice between (a) a central pitch sharing space with up to twenty tents in a single area, close to the toilet block and (b) a lochside pitch, smaller, more private single pitches right on the loch's edge, but a longer walk to the toilet block. The West Highland Way passes close by (walkers, runners, and sometimes cyclists); traffic on the road further back is light and unobtrusive. Site is managed by rangers who are helpful rather than rule-obsessed. When booking you need to specify the number of people and pitches for the whole duration of the stay; which makes it impossible to book for two nights, with one person the first night and two people the second.

I have been coming to Salochy Bay with my son for the last four years, on occasion several times throughout the year. We love it. The area is nothing short of spectacular and the staff are always helpful and friendly. However, on this visit I hired a fire pit and bought two bags of wood. I specifically asked the Ranger if the £10 for the two day hire of the fire pit was refunded at the end of the stay, as it had been every time we stayed previously. So I was less than happy when told the money was not refundable by a different Ranger on the day of our departure. I would never had paid a total of £20 for both pit and wood if I knew the pit hire was non refundable. That cost me more than the hire of the pitch for two days !! I left extremely dissapointed as the use of a fire pit was in fact the reason we started to go to Sallochy Bay. The Ranger told me that this was implemented last year. I can find no correspondence on the web site or otherwise which explains this change in policy. I will just look for alternatives now which allow fires at no extra cost. Really upset me that.

Beautiful wee campsite with basic facilities. Everything you need to recharge your batteries. When you get to the house with Sallochy on the gate, keep walking up the road and continue back on the forest path, following WHW markers. This will bring you out at Sallochy campsite. Don't try and camp in the garden of the one house in Sallochy!

I stayed here one night in May while doing the West Highland Way. the composting toilet facilities and outside sink area are well maintained. The ground was rugged the site is described as woodland campsite so that was to be expected. Great location right at the banks of the loch. Happy with the price of £7 per night although should perhaps more like £5 given the average price of other well established campsites in the area which have showers, shop, etc.

Fantastic stay as always. Staff friendly and helpful. No complaints since we started coming 2 years ago. Looking forward to visiting a few times this year. This was stay number 3 and have at least another 2 planned visits. Lochside is still our favourite but not always been able to book these out. Love visiting Sallochy Campsite.

Literally on the banks of Loch Lomand, this campsite is on the walking trail so many people pass through it. In evening, it's only a filled with campers though. The views and location are stunning and very wild. The facilities are just three long drop composting toilets, 2 outside sinks with cold water and drinking water. There are a few wooden benches also to sit and cook on. There are also bins. The only downside is that there is no shower. The wardens cabin is very small and sells a few basics like Smidge spray. You can hire a fire pit with logs for £10. Although the wood will only last a couple of hours. Note that the gates are locked in the evening after 7.30pm and the warden leaves. I was locked in until they re-opened in the morning. I was given a code but the gates were chained with a padlock !! Go figure.

This is a very basic campsite, the only "facilities" consist of composting loos and a washing up sink. However, it is situated right on the banks of Loch Lomond and is readily accessible by car. If you are walking the West Highland Way you will be In an area where wild camping is prohibited making this is a great place to stop. The rangers who look after this place do a great job in keeping everyting clean and tidy.

Small campsite with scenic location next to pebbly beach on the loch, access for pitching tents was ok with a small walk from car parking area. No showers but a few compost toilets clean with no smell on the one I tried. Peaceful, and quiet at night on my visit obviously this could change with different residents. The hire of the fire pits was good with enough logs to last a couple of hours on a cold night, part time wardens helpful And friendly, did the job for an overnight stay, good access for canoes as some did during the day.
